The GLA today announced the final decision to grant planning permission to the Royal Mail for their scheme at Mount Pleasant, following the S106 matters being agreed and signed last Friday.
Details can be found on the GLA’s website: http://www.london.gov.uk/priorities/planning/public-hearings/mount-pleasant-sorting-office
However, we cannot yet comment on the final S106 agreement, as it is yet to be made public.
The timing – before Easter and before the election – is not a coincidence.
The Mount Pleasant Association has always maintained that this scheme is a bad deal for the community and a bad deal for London. It has exposed the worst of our planning system and is symptomatic of the critical failings in the way our capital is being developed. In short, this fortress-like luxury housing scheme will worsen not relieve London’s problems.
We continue to pursue our alternative scheme in the firm belief that more houses, more social housing, better spaces and places, and more public amenities can be achieved on this large site in the heart of our capital.
