Boris Johnson has today taken the decision to call in the RMG’s planning applications citing, in a bizarre twist, that “it appears unlikely that the boroughs will be in a position to determine the two applications in the near future.”
Camden were scheduled to meet on 27 February and Islington on 10 March, whereas Boris hopes “the planning application will be brought before the Mayor in the summer.”
Therefore, if the Mayor’s motive is to speed things up then this move appears to contradict this ambition – unless of course it is a fait accompli and what he means by the summer’s deadline is not actually a review of the planning application, but an approval.
We shall also wait to see if he honours his word by pledging to ‘consider all of the planning issues and address the concerns expressed by the boroughs and local residents before taking a decision.’
